Why the Fujifilm GFX100RF

While I’m only 51, my life has changed a lot in the last couple of years. I lived in the inner city, and I was doing lots of portraits, along with extreme sports, mainly skateboarding surfing and kitesurfing.

After Covid, I moved to a smaller town, and my photography needs changed. I still do some sports photography, mainly community based stuff, but the model portrait work I do is no longer other than some personal requests. Now my photography is focussed around every day stuff, along with some occasional aurora and landscapes photos.

When the GFX100RF was released, it was perfect timing. I was looking for a new camera and the camera fit the bill, mostly. I was also looking at the Q3, and truth be told, if the Q4 was out, I may have purchased it. The Q3 was good but Leica is still a little slow in the autofocus department.

Initially I was disappointed with the specs, and it took a little while to get over that. Like some, I was expecting a f/2.8 or similar aperture, so I had to consider whether the f/4 would work for me. That questions remains open.

For now, this journey will continue, as I document whether this camera will do what I went.
